  • Scam and Spam is two big menaces in the world of the Internet. Every time we open our mailboxes, we find it flooded with junk e-mails. However, you can avoid these junk e-mails and stay away from the e-mail scams if you follow the tips that are given below.

Tips To Stay Away From Scam Emails

Most of the Spam e-mails are frauds and if you shun them, then you can prevent yourself from getting embroiled in an e-mail scam. Spam e-mails are dangerous. Some Spam emails can infect your computer with viruses while some may try to extract your personal information by using different tactics.

The extraction of personal information through Spam’s is known as phishing. If you receive any e-mail asking about your bank or credit card information, then do not respond. Banks and credit card companies do not send such e-mails for getting personal information.

Also, do not respond to e-mails that ask you to verify or update your personal information. Do not give out your social security number, driving license number or any other personal identification number since the number of identity thefts are on the rise. Most of such e-mails are fraudulent and a means to seek your personal, bank or credit card information which the scamsters may misuse.

Another common e-mail scam is the work from home one. These companies would ask you for money to register with them. However, a reputed company would never do that. If you are really interested in the job, then you should check their address and phone number. You should personally visit the office to confirm their physical presence. If the company is situated in some other country, it is better to avoid such offers, as they could be scam.

Besides the above, there are many other different types of e-mail scams. To avoid getting trapped in such scams, do not open or respond to e-mails from unidentified sources. In case you opened the email, do not click on the links in the email. Just hit the delete button to delete the email.

There are times when we get to receive emails coming from those who are not included in our contacts and we get curious and read through them. Some may really have good intentions and just want to make a living but there are others who are just after your personal information and this is very dangerous. The same with the mails that we receive at home or at the office, we need to be extra careful on discerning which ones are real and which ones are just scams. it would be better to properly dispose of personal documents as an additional protective measure to avoid getting victimized by scams.
