  • Economic Recovery Possible Only By Focusing on Young Americans

  • Today, it is obvious that young Americans are being obscured by the baby boomer generation, college administrators and of course, the Federal government and no one seem to care. The trend today is such that even before Americans in their twenties enter their adulthood, have a job and an opportunity to gain independence, they have to select a payment plan outlined by the government on exactly how they will pay back thousands of dollars student loan debt along with the phenomenal interest.

Those who fail to do so face wage garnishing and credit destruction. Students are unable to escape the suffocating web of student debt even if they file for bankruptcy. The burden required to be taken on by students is unenviable. Adding fuel to fire is today’s miserable job market where unemployment rates are ever rising.

Young Americans therefore today face a dismal future that is dark and cold. Bound by debt chains, the hazy American commerce minefield has to be navigated by them in a laborious manner. These obstacles still slow down their slow, step by step approach towards a satisfying and stable career.
Republican Party leaders are busy droning on about reducing deficit and tax cuts. Difficulties and struggles faced by the young Americans are no more focused upon by the Obama administration that is becoming detached and is busy boasting of its modest achievements the most significant of which is student loan structural adjustments like Pell Grant increase and lowered interest rates.
In the beginning out President’s changes to the financing issues governing higher education was indeed a beacon of hope. With passage of time, with no indications of these changes being implemented, it makes one wonder if all the government is after is to do as little for the young and gain their support or if it is due to their submissive and overly compromised style of governance.

If you want a decent employment today, you require at least a college degree. This modern reality is being capitalized upon by the universities transforming education into a lucrative business. High tuition rates are unjustifiably charged and student loans are the only answer to the average families.

If the young American wants to be a marketable job applicant, he or she has to enter the culture of thousands of dollars of student loans. They enter an irrevocable situation and are trapped in a closed door society with diminishing prospects and vanishing opportunities.

Challenges faced by the young Americans must quickly be tacked by aggressive political leadership as this is the only way future success of America can be secured. The current unsustainable situation is a path to economic disaster.

A recent study on entrepreneurial ambitions and plans of the young on various countries was conducted by the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor and the results were indeed shocking. In Columbia at least 57% and in China, 23% intend to start a business within the coming three years.

In comparison, a minimal 7% of the American young have any future entrepreneurship plans. Concrete steps have to be taken on a war footing to reverse this situation and place our country on the path to economic recovery.
