  • A lot has changed over the years when it comes to the quality of students, education and other significant aspects in the field of higher education. A recent study of various students at different colleges and schools showed that they are not what they used to be. Researchers state that the students are dumber than they used to be before. Or simply put, they are more stupid today.

This is because there have been great changes in the education system and the way of life. Study hours have dropped drastically from full time to part time studying. In fact there are so many students today who opt for online courses. These courses are not manned or supervised.

Earlier students had to put in at least 24 hours in a week for studies at universities and colleges. But now it has decreased to 16 hours a week only. This also has a lot to do with education of the parents and the type of schools they attended.

This can also be because the students have taken to technology and they feel that advanced technology will help them get through and knowledge takes a back seat. Overall the performance standards have also fallen.

The American education system is struggling anyways due to the after effects of the recession and the major upheaval in the nation wide common tests that the Obama government is planning to make compulsory.

There is no coordination between the wants of the system and the requirements of the schools. The authorities are constantly arguing over policies while the students are made to suffer. The teachers too, are suffering as many of them have lost their jobs.

Constant change in rules and regulations is not a healthy sign. Schools do not realise that every time the rules are changed, they would have to implement the changes and the teachers and the students bear the brunt of this. Even before they can settle into one situation, they are asked to change everything all over again.

Cutting down on curricular activities and increase in tuition fees is also a major drawback these days. Education on the whole is getting very expensive. A recent study reported that American students have at least $ 5 billion worth debt.

High school and university level education makes students pay through their nose. The fees and other costs are so high that the students are not able to pay off the debts for longer periods of time.

Even if they get a good job, they end up paying the interests and the loans for a real long period. This does take a toll on their confidence levels. Various new policies regarding immigrant children and their ability to work in the country is being questioned as well.

Our education system needs a revamp real fast. The system must be allowed to function in a smooth manner and the students and teachers should be able to work with freedom. Otherwise, situation will only get messier.
