  • What if your school asked for your visa? Why a visa? Well, to simply check whether or not you are a citizen of the country or not. But this comes as shock that this still schools in New York; at least one in five schools are asking students their visas.

But according to a rule passed almost thirty years ago, no school could demand a visa from a child. In fact they cannot deny admission rights to the child on the basis of their nationality. But today some schools are asking for a visa and have made it as a prerequisite for enrolment. If they cannot bring in the visas then the parents of such children are questioned.

However, it was seen that none of the children who were asked to produce the visa or paper work regarding their citizen ship, were not turned away. But the district has not sent out warnings to these schools. This is because the authorities feel that such practices scare away children coming from such families. Also due to this fear they might not attend school or simply their parents will not get them enrolled. This means the child will lose out on the education.

The education department in the state of New York has been working hard to get these practices to stop completely but these still prevail. Some parents have called this move by the schools as very discriminating. But some people are for this move.

They state that when America is facing such crisis, they need to keep a check on the illegal immigrants coming in. this is because the schools here and the law has to first look after the real Americans and not immigrants. These people who come in from the outside have taken over the country and the regular American children lose out on opportunities because of them. This is unfair on the part of the government because they are allowing this to happen.

It is becoming increasing difficult to find a solution to such practises. Because there is a mixed feeling amongst people regarding such laws, the government is not receiving much support from the people.

Education is a fundamental right and America as a land of opportunities has been a place where everyone and anyone got to make something out of their lives. But with these things coming up now, it is making the lives of immigrant families more and more difficult.

These problems extend to the job scene as well where students are allowed to study but they cannot seek jobs because they are not true Americans. What people do not realise that America is rich in diversity and thrives because all of the races that live here work in the interest of the country at the end of the day.

Therefore, stringent measures need to be taken to stop such activities. People need not live in fear. Education is a basic right and everyone should be able to study.
