  • Job fair to recruit Gay-Lesbian students

  • We know for a fact that job fairs are good place for employees and
employers to meet. Even universities and high schools organise fairs
to gauge student interactions. Fairs organised by colleges and
high schools have a different yet important motive.

Here, the college and university representatives get to meet new
aspiring students and interact with them. Through such interactions
the representatives can get an insight into what students are thinking
and what the students look for in a university and campus.

Because it is a great way to meet students, universities in America are now
organising fairs to recruit gay-lesbian students. Everyone is welcome
but the main aim is to recruit students who fall in the category of
    different sexual orientation.

Now many of us would question this initiative as to why organise a
students fair for this? The reason is to make each and every student
comfortable. Being gay or a lesbian is a personal choice. And it is
not an advantage over anything else.

Educational institutions organise fairs like these around the year and there are approximately 500 held each year. So a fair organized specifically for gay students is no big deal.
But it will in the long run help to ease out the discrimination factor
    for the gay-lesbian students.

We know that students who were not straight have had to face a lot of
music in terms of ragging and teasing in colleges. Over the years this
has become less but still people do not come clean when it comes to
their sexual orientation. They still fear rejection and issues like
harassment at the hands of their peers. They do not want to be
labelled as the ‘queer’ people that they are generally called.

aws about the gay-lesbian people in the country have been relaxed.
They are accepted and therefore, now the universities are trying to
make such students more comfortable. They want the straight students
to be more accepting and mingle with one and all and vice versa. Gay
    students should feel welcome.

Education is the one key to success but to become citizens of the
world, one needs to be more open to one and all and accept the changes
around them. This initiative, the universities are hoping, will do the
trick. At the fair, gay students can speak to the spokespersons
themselves and understand where it will be best for them to apply.

Definitely one’s sexual orientation should not be the reason why they
drop the idea of going to be a particular college. Education holds no
bar when orientation of any kind is concerned. It is for one and all.
In many ways, this initiative will help some students come out of
their closets as well. This means that they will be more open about
their choices and lead better lives.

To help students further, there are gay representative from
organisations set up to help such students specifically. This is a
great initiative and hope students make the best use of it.
