  • Colleges and universities have always tried to make sure that their students feel at home when they go there to study. Hence, dorm rooms practically become the student’s second home or rather their bedrooms just like the ones they have back home.

Students are allowed to decorate and do a variety of things when at college. This is because living at the university or the college is one experience, one will not forget for the rest of the lives. And to add to this, the Stephen’s college is now allowing students to get their pets along with them to college.

Yes, now students can get their pets to their dorm rooms and be roommates with their owners. According to the college’s spokesperson, this initiative was taken to make the students feel more comfortable. They miss home and being with someone they love, will give them a sense of home.

The students on the other hand are mighty happy. About 30 students at Stephens were asked to get their pets along with them. There is a special dormitory where the students who get their pets can stay.

A student, who has brought her 10 year old along with her, feels this is the best thing ever. She says she could not have asked for more as her dog is very precious to her. Most of them who have got their pets along with them, feel the same.

A spokesperson at the university stated that pets are known to be much more than family to these students. They have a calming effect on the students in times of stress. At times, students get depressed not only because they are away from home but also because they fell lonely and there are a lot of things to be done at college as well.

The pet comes in as a refreshing break. They know they can talk to the animal and whatever happens the animal is not leaving them. A student was heard saying that there are times when they are stressed out to the point of breaking down but her pet dog somehow comes over and does something funny that helps to break the tensed atmosphere.

Professors at the university feel that bringing and caring for their own pet at the university is teaching the students a lot. They have to care for their pet which means they are actually caring for a life they are responsible. Hence, this demands that the students get serious and responsible. This attitude does not only help to care for their pets but this helps to change the overall perspective of the students. They will learn to value people and education around them.

Students need to know what is best for them and for their pets. Parents on the other hands are not very happy with this initiative by the college. They would have preferred that they pets stay at home so that their children can concentrate on their study courses completely.
