  • In between school terms or after graduation can be most stressful during these tight economic times. You are competing with hundreds of other people to find a job to earn enough money to return to school or to start paying off loans to the bank or the government. Despite all promises, the Student Loans offices are not going to let you by with a 'we understand and you don't have to pay us back'. The interest rate might be lowered but you still have to pay loans back.

Here are some ideas for becoming gainfully employed for others or yourself:
    • start a painting business with three or four hard working friends.
    • start your own house or office cleaning business using natural cleaning products to protect the environment and be allergy free.
    • start a summer day-care for 5 children per adult, at your home and make sure that they are well supervised and fed. Ask a reliable friend to help and you might be able to take care of more children.
    • begin a wilderness camp for older children to attend daily at the local park. Make up stations and games, contests and theme days.
    • approach a busy law firm or a corporation and ask if you can file or type or be a temp for the summer
    • apply at the local Red Cross for home respite care with the elderly or infirm
    • apply at the local nursing homes or retirement homes for summer kitchen help
    • start your own writing and typing business and advertise with posters at every business
    • try selling door to door any product that you are comfortable with but travel in pairs
    • do odd jobs in the area for older neighbours who cannot get them done otherwise
    • offer to grocery shop or accompany them to do their shopping for a fee

These are just some ideas for the summer or for a longer term to show that you did stay active and were responsible and employed during the tough economic times.
