  • Perhaps you want to pursue a new career, or make more money, or just add more purpose to your life. For whatever reasons that you’ve decided to go back to school, it’s the right time and you should be very proud of yourself for the choice. This said, you may be feeling overwhelmed at the prospect of going back to school and worrying about all that it may entail in relation to your life and responsibilities. Here’s a list of our best tips on approaching continuing education for adults:

    1. Give yourself a break: The first thing to address is that you have made a courageous decision to go back and get more schooling. It is only human that you may be feeling very overwhelmed and anxious about getting back into that atmosphere after beginning a much different life of family, home, and adult responsibilities. Just remind yourself that the adjustment will take some time to be successful, and that you need to afford yourself a break in doing so.

    2. Make a schedule: Crucial to being able to handle school, work, and family is making a realistic schedule for all that is required. It may be helpful to sit down with your family and work one out-one that allows to time to study, work, and also share quality down time with your family. This way you won’t feel so stressed to work it all it, all at once.

    3. Lessen your load: Another necessary action you must take if you are going back to school as an adult is lessening your load of responsibilities. This may mean saying “no” to extracurricular demands such as pta president at your kid’s school or cooking dinner every night for the family. You will have more demands such as homework and studying to fit into your schedule, and lessening your load of responsibilities will help you achieve these means more successfully-and with more sanity.
