Test 2
Overview (PDF)
Practice Problems: The following problems and solutions from old 3.185 tests and homeworks should help you to get a sense for the kind of problems which might be asked on the second test.

| Solid-Liquid Processing |
| Electron Beam Centrifugal Atomization of Metal (PDF) | (PDF) |
| Fluid Flow |
| Floating Bubbles out of Molten Glass (PDF) | (PDF) |
| Laminar and Turbulent Boundary Layers (PDF) | (PDF) |
| Turbulence and Mixing in a Tube (PDF) | (PDF) |
| Titanium Nitride Inclusion Removal in an Electron Beam Melting Hearth (PDF)# | (PDF) |
Note: We only briefly covered the rate of growth of a turbulent boundary layer, you're not expected to know that (and not expected to memorize the rate of growth of a laminar boundary layer). And I don't believe we named the Prandtl number, it is the ratio nu/alpha for heat transfer and nu/D for mass transfer. For turbulent transport, both of these are just below one.
