  • Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a program offered in cooperation between the Learning Assistance Program and the Departments of Biology and Chemistry. Only students who have taken the introductory level class and have earned an A in the course are hired to be SI leaders. INTERESTED IN BECOMING AN SI LEADER?. This student attends class and takes notes just like you for the entire semester. After each lecture, the SI leader will create a handout that will be discussed during the 1 hour interactive study sessions that are held 2-3 times a week. SI leaders also hold a two hour test review before each exam. Attendance is voluntary and annonymous so students may choose to go to sessions whenever they wish and get exactly what they want without wondering if the professor knows who attends and who doesn't. SI is provided for all students who want to improve their understanding of course material and their grades. Studies show that students who attend SI regularly can earn up to a letter grade higher than those who choose not to attend. Attend SI to get together with your classmates and compare notes, discuss important concepts, develop strategies for studying the subject, and test yourself before the professor does. If you attend SI sessions regularly, you will gain a better understanding of the course content, improve your study skills, meet new people and possibly improve your grade.
