    The Department of Music Education at Bowling Green State University’s College of Musical Arts invites applications for a Qualified Rank Faculty Assistant Professor of Instrumental Music Education - nontenure track, with a brass or woodwind specialization, 9-month, renewable appointment, beginning August 2026.

    Information about Program and College Bowling Green State University’s College of Musical Arts has earned a reputation as one of the country’s outstanding collegiate music programs. The College enrolls approximately 450 students under the guidance of 55 full-time and 25 part-time faculty. Our comprehensive music curriculum features specialties in music education and contemporary music, including the distinctive DMA in Contemporary Music. The College is home to the MidAmerican Center for Contemporary Music, producing an annual New Music Festival and a nationally syndicated radio program. The College’s musical calendar features more than 300 performances and

    The department of music education is recognized as a leader in preparing undergraduate and graduate students for careers in teaching, or continued study at the graduate level. The department serves nearly 250 undergraduate music education majors across all disciplines within the field of music pedagogy and engages with multiple local and regional arts and educational organizations through collaborative partnerships to offer a robust curriculum of performance training, traditional academic opportunities and practical field experiences. The department also facilitates an industry leading and innovative online graduate degree in Teaching Artistry along with a traditional residential master’s degree program.

    Essential Functions
    • Teach either Brass Techniques or Woodwind Techniques dependent on candidate specialization
    • Teach and facilitate our Introduction to Music Education course required for all undergraduate music education majors
    • Serve as administrative and faculty lead for Music Plus – a comprehensive music education and community engagement program for underserved populations staffed by BGSU faculty and music education students
    • Serve as coordinator for student teaching and our Musicianship and Advanced Pedagogy (music education scholarship) program
    • Serve as administrator and director as applicable for the Academy Band Program serving local school band students in weekly rehearsals at BGSU
    • Graduate teaching opportunities are possible through our online Teaching Artistry program with a supplemental summer teaching contract
    • Contribute to institutional and professional service and intellectual life of the College and University

    Minimum Qualifications
    1. Completed Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education at time of appointment
    2. Minimum 3 years teaching instrumental music (band) in K-12 school programs

    Preferred Qualifications
    1. Documented experience as instructor of record in collegiate classroom teaching in music education
    2. Experience in supervision of undergraduate pre-service methods and student teachers
    3. 5 or more years teaching instrumental music (band) in K-12 school programs
