    Job Highlights:
    Ophthalmic Technicians at UAB Callahan Eye play a key role in providing high quality patient care. Primary responsibilities include assisting with eye exams, performing technical workups, documenting medical history, preparing and/or administering medications, and providing assistance during minor procedures. The ideal candidate for this role has a keen attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to patient safety and comfort. UAB Callahan Eye offers ongoing training and development opportunities for career growth through a structured path, which includes support to obtain relevant certifications. The shift for this full-time opportunity is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

    Job Description:
    - Administer preliminary testing and measurements to assess patients' vision and eye health.
    - Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
    - Prepare patients for examinations by explaining procedures and ensuring their comfort.
    - Assist ophthalmologists during examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures. Sets up and cleans up procedures.
    - Acts as scribe while the physician examines patient, entering data into electronic medical records or paper chart.
    - Maintain and operate ophthalmic equipment, ensuring it is clean and functioning properly.
    - Document patients’ medical history and examination results accurately in electronic health records.
    - Provide patient education on eye health, treatment plans, and post-operative care.
    - Schedule appointments and manage patient flow efficiently.
    - Orders supplies.
    - Assists in training of other ophthalmic technicians.
    - Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Acts in accordance with all State and Federal regulations.
    - Maintains positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism.
    - Potential for travel between hospital and satellite clinics.


    Qualifications
    Required:
    - High school diploma or GED
    - Must be able to travel between hospital and satellite clinics as needed


    Preferred:
    - Associate's degree in ophthalmic technology or related field.
    - Previous experience in an ophthalmic setting and familiarity with ophthalmic medical equipment.
    - Proficiency in medical terminology, coding, and billing procedures.
    - Basic math, including multiplication, and computer skills, typing a minimum of 25 words per minute.
    - Experience in a medical office or health care setting.
