  • Job Summary/Basic Function:
    Provide day-to-day application administration support as needed. Apply updates and fixes to various applications which may include, but not limited to document imaging, custom web applications, content management, room/event scheduling, IT service management, and application integration software. Manage security for various applications at the server level. Troubleshoot and resolve issues with the application at the application and server level. Create and maintain Single Sign-On federations and support the University’s Multi-Factor Authentication environment. File and escalate trouble tickets with various support organizations for an application. Act as escalation contact for first level application admins. Escalate issues within the team as needed.

    Department Overview:
    The Office of Information Technology’s Cloud Services and Infrastructure team is responsible for architecting, installing, maintaining and supporting enterprise compute, storage, and backup platforms for Boise State University. This team is responsible for providing and maintaining virtual servers, and enterprise file, directory and authentication services. In addition, the Cloud Services and Infrastructure team works closely with Networking Services, Identity Management and Accounts, 2nd tier support, and the Project Management Office to provide and support many other enterprise applications, including email, web services, SSO and MFA.

    Level Scope:
    Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry-level professionals and/or support employees. Typically hold a Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.

    Essential Functions:
    50% of Time the Software Application Administrator 2 must:

    Act as a point of contact for various application vendors whose applications the University has licensed.
    Install application software on server, as needed.
    Monitor for, download, and apply upgrades, updates, and fixes for supported applications.
    Monitor applications and services provided by those applications, using monitoring tools.
    Provide before, after-hours, and weekend support for migrations, updates, fixes, and issues as needed.
    Address application or performance issues that are forwarded from Customer Care. Respond to Customer Care with end-user information related to any issues as well as updating status during ongoing issues.
    Provide technical assistance and consulting to functional areas and other teams around the University on problems that may be server or application related.
    Perform application tuning according to vendor instructions, as needed.
    Update security configurations as needed based on best practices or recommendations from the Information Security Office, including adjustments to TLS settings and separation of privileges for service accounts.
    Administer application-level security as needed at the application and server level.
    Create and maintain documentation on supported applications for use by technical operations personnel.
    Create documentation and check lists for internal processes.
    Provide reasonable estimates to ensure reasonable target dates.
    Meet target dates.
    Perform certificate renewals and updates for web services.
    Communicate revised estimates and target dates to customers in a timely manner.
    Script or create simple programs to automate daily operational tasks.
    Work with TSS area to deploy desktop applications to end-user, as needed.
    Prepare regular status reports for manager.
    45% of Time the Software Application Administrator 2:

    This position is responsible for Single Sign-on and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) support. Tasks include:

    General troubleshooting. Work with application vendor support to create and maintain Single Sign-on federations.
    Migrate existing SSO Federations from on-prem ADFS to Microsoft Entra ID.
    Troubleshoot, upgrade, patch the University’s MFA environment.
    Adjust and test MFA features and assign MFA based on Active Directory groups.
    Troubleshoot, patch, and upgrade the University’s application integration platform.
    Troubleshoot, patch and upgrade F5 load balancers.
    Create and maintain F5 virtual servers, pools and nodes. Troubleshoot, patch, upgrade and support the University’s Perceptive ECM Document Management environment.
    5% of Time the Software Application Administrator 2:

    Perform other duties as assigned.
