    Job Description Summary
    The University of South Alabama’s Biochemistry and Molecular Biology department is seeking to hire a Research Technologist II. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.



    Essential Functions
    These are the job duties required of the position.
    Essential Functions
    Assists the Principal Investigator (PI) in research projects aimed at understanding the role of intratumoral nerves in promoting cancer aggressiveness and progression.
    Develops experiments under the guidance of the PI, encompassing both in vitro and in vivo work.
    Primarily contributes to the development of animal models related to cancer progression and metastasis, as well as analyzing the characteristics of cancer cells in the laboratory.
    Assists the PI and other lab members in research activities, including designing, organizing, and analyzing experiments.
    Generates figures from obtained data and present them during the weekly lab meetings.
    Improves established techniques and incorporates new methodologies as necessary.
    Independently conducts experiments and manage daily laboratory routines.
    Interacts and assists the managers of the bioimaging cores to analyze biological samples by confocal microscopy and Flow cytometry.
    Establishes and maintains mouse xenograft models of cancer progression and metastasis.
    Conducts culture and genetic manipulation of mammalian cells in vitro.
    Performs imaging of cells and nerve-cancer cultures.
    Carries out DNA, RNA, and protein extraction, preparation, and analysis using techniques such as TaqMan, qRT-PCR, and Western blot analysis.
    Performs cloning of genetic constructs.
    Documents and records laboratory findings, activities, and procedures.
    Assists in ordering supplies and equipment.
    Adheres to appropriate procedures for handling, storing, and disposing of biohazardous substances.
    Contributes to the design and optimization of the laboratory environment and routines.
    Collaborates with peers, scientists, and staff to achieve research goals.
    Assists in animal xenograft work, tissue culture and basic techniques in molecular biology.
    Utilizes tissue culture hood, incubator, fluorescence microscope, PCR and RT-PCR machine, centrifuges, pH meter, spectrophotometer, luminometer, SeaHorse Analyzer, computers (Mac and PC).
    Regular and prompt attendance.
    Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
    Related duties as required.
