Job Summary
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Augusta University invites applications for a post-doctoral position within the Laboratory for Imaging Mass Spectrometry and the Chemical and Biomolecular Analysis Core led by Dr. Guido Verbeck in the area of Bioanalytical Lipidomics in Women's Health. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry resides in the College of Science and Mathematics on a top-ranked medical campus. This post-doctoral position will focus on the directions for the recent funded Strategically Focused Research Network on Cardiovascular Kidney Metabolic Syndrome: Heterogeneity in Women. Scientists in the network work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment fostered by interactions across many science and medical disciplines. Research areas of interest are in conventional biological mass spectrometry, chromatography, microscopy, and spectroscopy focused on metabolomics and lipidomics.
The successful candidate is expected to develop and aid The Strategically Focused Research Network on Cardiovascular Kidney Metabolic Syndrome: Heterogeneity in Women independent and novel research program, particularly in the area of novel bioanalytical techniques and instrumentation.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
PROJECT PLANNING: Participate in project planning and development of research protocols and carry out experiments while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific principles and compliance with relevant federal
guidelines.
EQUIPMENT: Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair and operate microscopes, computer-linked analytical equipment,
dedicated computers and other complex scientific equipment; instruct others in the operation of equipment.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Advise principal investigator, other postdocs, students and other research personnel on research techniques, procedures and other technological aspects of research activities.
PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT: Supervise and coordinate activities of students, graduate assistants and other research personnel engaged in research activities and/or related laboratory work.
PUBLICATIONS: Compose articles for publication in scientific journals; review articles prepared by others.
RESEARCH DISSEMINATION: Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings; develop derivative applications of techniques developed by own research activities or reported by other research projects. Presents findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally and
internationally.
DATA ANALYSIS: Analyze results of experiments and procedures using manual or computer techniques and, if
necessary, develop special computer programs to facilitate analysis. Teach and participate in complex bacteriological, chemical and/or radio-chemical qualitative and quantitative analysis, macro- and micro serological, histologic and cell culture procedures.
OTHER: Performs other duties incidental to work described herein.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. degree from an accredited college or university.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. degree from an accredited college or university and a demonstrated publication record in the area of bioanalytical chemistry with a strong track record in instrumentation, specifically mass spectrometry.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
The position will require an understanding of the laboratory protocols and experimental designs.
The individual is expected to be able to recognize improper operating conditions and take action to correct the condition and advise the PI and members of the lab on techniques, procedures and other technical aspects of research activities.

Must be able to communicate effectively in English.
