Position Overview and ResponsibilitiesThe
Axtell Lab is seeking a highly motivated, passionate team player to join our efforts as a temporary Postdoc to investigate the mechanisms of autoimmune disease and/or inflammation. This role involves designing and conducting research experiments; managing research projects; preparing reports and papers for publication, presentation, and future research; contributing to grant writing, and guiding/leading graduate students, postdocs (if applicable) and additional lab staff; may manage staff.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the principles and practices of scientific theory and research
Demonstrates skill in formulating and testing hypotheses
Ability to conduct scientific research experiments, analyze, and summarize data and results
Ability to write and present technical, scientific papers, and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Mentor students and guide/direct the work of less senior scientists
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in a biological science, chemistry, physics or other relevant area, M.D., or equivalent.
- Highly motivated and enthusiastic about science.
- Must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to work independently, as well as part of a team.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate and write summaries of results.
Preferred Qualifications
- Immunology training which include degrees in, but not limited to, Immunology, Pathology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Pathobiology, Biostatistics, Cell Biology or a related field with some immunology training or experience.
- Interest in autoimmunity and/or infectious disease.
- Experience with small animal models of autoimmunity or infectious diseases and/or with human immunology along with human specimens specifically peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs).
- Experience with Flow Cytometry and/or RNAseq.
- Experience with tissue culture techniques.
