  • The rapid changes occurring in the American education system are not something new. The Obama government has been striving hard to achieve a balance in the education system. Recently the education department announced that they were going to stall the various methods of tests conducted in the American schools.

Earlier, the standardised exams consisted of the math bubble tests, multiple choice questions and reading tests. These defined the American public education system. However, now the government is going to start over hauling these methods.

This is because the education department will split the American states into two groups, making them 44 in all and will grant an aid of $ 330 million so that they can work with professors and educationists from universities and testing experts on a series of new tests and assessment methods. These will be very different from the tests conducted currently in schools and this will take shape in four years from now.

Most of these tests will be computer based. It will analyse the skills that are overlooked in the multiple choice questions. It will also test the student’s ability to read and write, grasp and make use of the information they seek and how they manage their research projects.

Also the schools will now make use of the latest technologies in the assessments of the tests. This way it will help to analyse the students better, let them experiment further and run their own tests and much more.

Results will be out faster because these tests will be conducted several times in the year through the school for each and every grade. This means that it will help the teachers greatly to understand how well or how badly a student has done and what further help they might require. The education department that seems very keen on this method stated that if all of this comes through, then it will change the face of the system completely.

Actually all of this sounds really good. So far, this is the first positive response or statement one has heard from the education department of America in a long time. If these methods do come through, then the teachers will be much more in sync with the students than ever before. Plus, it will also help parents of the students gain a deep insight into their child’s education and the challenges it poses.

As the tests will give out quick results, the time to study and make up for the low scores will be more. This will help the student fare better in the coming exams and also they will be more confident. This also improves the student teacher relationship.

Online tests are not new but the way in which these are going to be assessed shows promise. The American education system does need a revamp and all these proposed measures give one a lot of hope. And so we hope the outcome of this is really good.
