  • Remember the Obama Race to the Top initiative? Well, the recent news is that New York has won the program and this would mean that the state of New York gets huge grants for its education system.

This program has been in the news for quite some time now and finally, it is time to reveal the winners of the federal grants. Many schools, states, students and teachers will benefit from the funds.

Many states, in fact all of them bid for this initiative as the government had announced a grant of $10 billion o schools in districts and states that step forward to embrace the changes and the new norms. Recently the schools in Ohio celebrated their victory as their students were amongst the highest rankers in the ACT tests.

The coming week, specifically Tuesday will see the education department officially announce the winners and grant those funds aaides. Only 16 states made it to the list of finalists who were able
to turn their way round and be capable of being shortlisted for the grant. Now New York is entitled to get a cut in the $4 billion state grant for education.

Race to the Top program was initiated last year. It was started to expressly bail out the American education system of the problems they have been facing. The education system in the country was worst hit by recession. From cost cuts to termination, the education system across the nation faced major issues. And most of them have not been sorted out yet. This initiative spurred schools to action and encouraged them to revamp the system to make it more effective.

The government has introduced various policies over the last year. Many of them have been accepted and implemented but have not gone down well with the people. Some policies stated that immigrant students could study but cannot get a job. This upset many students who had left their country behind to come and study here.

The whole idea of an educated workforce working in the interest of the nation was defeated. This is because even though the students were immigrants they would finally work for the American economy. But the American citizen felt the other way. They felt that because of the immigrants their own children were losing out on the opportunities and are being left jobless while the minority groups made the most of it.

Many such policies were passed and then to correct the issues,  more policies were brought into place. Currently the education system is facing a lot of troubles. However, the government is trying to make amends. And the sooner these come through, the better for the students and the teachers who otherwise are facing a lot of confusion.

So as the winners wait to be announced, and other states lie hopeful, we hope that reforms in the education system show results fast and stay for a longer period of time, all in the interest of the our people. Remember the Obama Race to the Top initiative?
