  • We know for a fact that education empowers us. Whatever we might choose to study, even though we may take up different vocations later, we can always safely say that we have not wasted our education. It has come up to some use or the other.

But not all of us are fortunate. Education is something that we all look towards completing but due to some seen and some unforeseen circumstances, one cannot finish their degree. Most of the time, higher education is expensive. Other than that circumstances like duty towards the family, may not let us complete our education. And we have to take up jobs to support ourselves and our families.

At the work place, promotions are given to those who perform well. But this performance has to be supplemented with some kind of academic degree to go with. And not everyone though they are good can achieve this because they lack a solid degree. But now things are changing and companies are soon realising that though all their employees cannot afford to get a degree, they can help them achieve this dream.

To start with, Wal-Mart has signed up with an American online university which caters to 70,000 students online, to help their employees achieve their dream of getting a degree. Through this tie-up, the employees can apply for degrees in retail management and courses in logistics online. This will help them contribute more efficiently at Wal-Mart. The online American university will offer the employees of Wal-Mart a fifteen percent cut in the course fee. In addition to this Wal-Mart has planned to invest about $50 million over a period of three years into this initiative so that they can help their employees to pay for the tuition fees for the course.

It is heard from the higher authorities at Wal-Mart that they agreed to enter the educational sphere only for the benefit of their employees and they are not at the moment interested in taking up any other initiative within education. Even if a small percentage of employees working for Wal-Mart take this up, it will be beneficial. Plus the degree they receive will be authentic and the best part is, it will be at a much cheaper prize.

The company is very happy with this initiative as they believe that it reflects the kind of company they are. They believe they want to help and support each one of the employees who wants to grow with them and contribute to the company.

The employees are excited too. They feel that this will boost their confidence. Plus there are many people who dropped out of high school to work and they are happy that they can get a degree now.

It is imperative that everyone gets a good education. It is only through this that the economy of the American nation rise higher. Education does not only benefit the person who is studying but the society as a whole.
