  • In the United States of America the secondary education mainly consists of the junior and the Senior High School system. The secondary education is regarded as one of the most important phases of an individual’s academic career. This is mainly because of the fact that secondary education is considered to be the base and the foundation of the entire academic career of a person in the United States.

The Junior high school phase can also be defined as the phase of education which falls in between Senior high school phase and the elementary school phase. You can also define grade six, seven and eight as Junior high school phase. The Junior high school phase is very important as this is the time when the students start choosing the field in which they would like to excel in their lives and hence they start choosing the classes accordingly.

The students are given the freedom to choose whatever they want. This is also the time when the students make a list of different colleges which they would like to get into for their higher education and hence start working accordingly. It is evident that junior high school is the phase wherein the individual or the student starts to take more responsibility.

The next phase is the senior high school phase. Well, many of the students also refer this phase as simply High School phase. The senior high school phase is comparatively a bit tougher as compared to the junior high school phase. Students in the senior high school phase have already made a choice on their own regarding which the field they are planning on choosing.

The passing grade during the secondary education in the United States varies from one place to another. However, the passing grade is usually as high as 65. There are also some colleges and universities which have a passing grade as low as 60. You would also come across some of the best institutes and universities with a passing grade of 75.

According to many experts, the reason behind such a high passing grade is to make the student more competitive. Having a lower passing grade would mean that the students would simply put in less efforts to get the required grades.

Subjects like English language and English literature, Science, Math and social science are some of the most common subjects that you would come across most of the universities in the United States of America. The secondary education system of the United States also makes sure that physical education is given a lot of importance. Importance is also given to such as sex education and many universities have made physical education compulsory for a period of 12 months.

Over the past few years many universities have also included many foreign language courses in their secondary education system. We can safely conclude that the secondary education system of the United States is extremely strong and provides all the required knowledge to its students.
