The University of San Diego is getting a $20 million donation to create a school of engineering.
U-T San Diego (bit.ly/OnFHdk) says the gift comes from Darlene Shiley, a philanthropist whose late husband, Donald, invented heart valves that are widely used in medicine.
The school has an undergraduate engineering program with about 360 students. The donation will be used to hire a dean and support workers, create student scholarships and improve classroom and research space.
