Richard Lariviere, a former liberal arts dean at the University of Texas, was ousted as president of the University of Oregon on Monday after a little more than two years in the job.

Members of Oregon’s State Board of Higher Education voted unanimously to dismiss Lariviere, decrying among other things his lobbying against the board’s wishes for a plan to make the flagship independent from the rest of the university system.
