3 University of Michigan professors awarded 'genius grant,' named MacArthur Fellows

Three University of Michigan professors were named 2011 MacArthur Fellows this morning, joining 19 others in receiving what is known in academic circles as the "genius grant."

U-M tied Harvard with the most professors to get the award from one institution this year.

The fellows get $500,000 grants that they can use for their research over the next five years.

U-M professors Tiya Miles, Melanie Sanford and Yukiko Yamashita were named to the program.
