MSU tuition boost questioned by some

Michigan State University passed an unusual sort of tuition increase last summer, raising the rates for in-state students by 4.9 percent then announcing that it would use federal stimulus money to offset part of that increase for the fall and spring semesters.

In effect, students saw only a 2.5 percent increase during the regular school year. It was only those who enrolled for the summer that saw their tuition rise the rest of the way.
