It has not been a good few days for USC football.

On the heels of a Los Angeles Times story that reported a star player has been using a vehicle that belonged to a Santa Monica businessman, possibly in violation of NCAA regulations, the university announced yesterday that three players have been ruled academically ineligible for Saturday’s Emerald Bowl against Boston College in San Francisco.

Tight end Anthony McCoy and tackle Tyron Smith, both offensive starters, and reserve defensive lineman....
