Miami Dade College cancels enrollment drive

Hit hard by unprecedented state budget cuts and surging enrollment, Miami Dade College is taking a drastic step: It's capping enrollment.

In the first act of rolling up of the welcome mat, MDC is canceling all open house events scheduled for this Saturday at its eight campuses across Miami-Dade.

''The college's administration can't guarantee that prospective students who would have attended the event would be admitted for the fall semester,'' the college said in a statement.
