Job Description:
GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsible to the Provost for coordinating the development, evaluation, and supervision of all programs and credit instruction in the Fine and Performing Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Legal Studies. Responsible for the evaluation of directors and/or teaching faculty, other professional staff and Civil Service employees within the unit. Supervises the administration of the collective bargaining agreement between the College and the Genesee Educational Association within his/her unit. Represents to the Provost the concerns and interests of the area faculty and directors on matters related to curriculum, instruction, and the deployment of resources. Collaborates with associates in all campus locations in promoting and maintaining the "one college" concept.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares class schedules and teaching assignments for teaching faculty in cooperation with program directors, faculty, and administrative staff.
Within the academic area, coordinates college-wide course offerings.
In coordination with program directors, hires for and coordinates staffing of adjunct positions.
Proposes - in consultation with program directors, teaching faculty and the administrative staff - the implementation, modification or deactivation of courses and programs of study.
Evaluates program directors and/or teaching faculty and other staff members and makes recommendations to the Provost regarding the appointment, reappointment, promotion, and termination thereof.
Coordinates the evaluation of area curricula and facilitates program assessment. Facilitates new program development opportunities.
Supervises other program efforts sponsored by the area (e.g., advisory committee meetings, Art Gallery, Fine Arts Committee presentations).
Contributes to the development of annual goals and activities in coordination with faculty, program directors, other administrative areas, and the Provost. Monitors and reports on goal attainment using data.
Approves ACE (Accelerated College Enrollment) faculty and courses in cooperation with program faculty and directors.
Proposes annual budget proposals for the area and administers approved budgets.
Supervises the use, maintenance, and inventory of all equipment assigned to the area (in collaboration with User Experience & Technology Services).
Co-coordinate the college's prison education program.
Supervises and assists area staff in carrying out grant activities.
Contributes to college accreditation efforts.
Serves on the Provost's leadership team.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Provost related to area of responsibility.
Requirements:
EDUCATION:
Master's degree in a subject area commonly taught in programs and courses in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Mathematics, or Arts. A doctorate in one of these discipline areas or in educational administration is highly desirable.
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of three years of full-time teaching experience in post-secondary education. At least two years of experience in academic program administration at the department level, or supervisory experience in a comparable academic capacity. Experience in the community college sector is highly desirable.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
The successful candidate will be a person with proven leadership and managerial skills, background and/or training in instructional evaluation/assessment, supervision and evaluation of faculty/staff, excellent communication skills, a vision for the future, and an ability to effectively work to deadlines within a team-based environment. Must be able to demonstrate sensitivity to people with diverse cultural and racial backgrounds.

SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a Batavia campus-based 12-month, managerial/confidential position at 35 hours per week. Compensation is set at $108,283.70 annually. The salary for this position is based upon educational credentials, training, and prior experience.
