  • About the Department
    The CAECM Department consists of 21 full-time faculty, 3 full-time staff and 2 part-time staff, and houses three accredited undergraduate programs with mandatory co-op: Architectural Engineering (234 students), Civil Engineering (399 students), and Construction Management (412 students). The CAECM Department also houses the Civil Engineering M.Eng., M.S., and Ph.D. graduate programs, as well as the Architectural Engineering M.Eng. program, with 85 graduate students across programs. The Department has strong educational and research programs in structural engineering, building systems, construction engineering, transportation systems and infrastructure, and geotechnical and pavement engineering.     About the Program
    The Civil Engineering program at UC serves a large and diverse undergraduate population and is supported by approximately 12 full-time faculty members with expertise spanning structural engineering, transportation, geotechnical engineering, construction engineering, and materials. The structural engineering area is a core strength of the civil engineering program, with active engagement in teaching, research, and industry collaboration. The structural engineering faculty teach courses to students in all three undergraduate programs. These faculty are actively engaged in technical committees within AISC, ACI, and PCI with strong ties to industry. UC’s Civil Engineering program houses active student chapters for ASCE and the Structural Engineers Association of Ohio. Our ASCE student chapter consistently receives national recognition and ranks highly in regional student competitions.

    Job Overview
    The Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering and Construction Management (CAECM) in the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) at the University of Cincinnati (UC) invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Assistant/Associate/Full Professor - Educator position in Structural Engineering. Appointment rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The appointment has the possibility to begin as early as August 15, 2026.



    The Educator track at the University of Cincinnati emphasizes excellence in teaching and student engagement, innovative pedagogy, and applied learning, aligning with the university’s strong tradition of cooperative education. The workload for the position is expected to be 90% teaching and 10% service, with no expectation of obtaining research funding. Appointees will be evaluated for reappointment and promotion based on criteria established by the CAECM department and CEAS.     This position supports an established, nationally recognized Structural Engineering program within a Civil Engineering department. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and/or graduate instruction in Structural Engineering, advise and mentor students and student groups, and participate in service activities at UC and to the profession.

    Essential Functions
    Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in structural engineering such as but not limited to: statics, strength of materials, structural analysis, and reinforced concrete design
    Develop and enhance curriculum to reflect current industry practices and emerging technologies
    Implement active, experiential, and project-based learning approaches
    Contribute to program assessment, accreditation (e.g., ABET), and continuous improvement processes
    Advise and mentor students, including student professional organizations such as ASCE and Structural Engineers Association of Ohio
    Participate in service to the department, college, and profession

    Minimum Requirements
    Prior to the effective date of the appointment, Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related discipline.
