About the Work Unit:
The School of Nursing Marketing and Communications unit is a multidisciplinary team that delivers comprehensive creating and strategic communications support, including graphic design, photography, video and special project development, digital asset management, advertising, web development and content creation. The department collaborates closely with campus partners and external stakeholders to maximize impact, including VUSN Alumni Relations, which supports alumni communications and events; VUSN Development and Alumni Relations, which leads tailored fundraising messaging; and the Vanderbilt University Division of Communications. The unit's mission is to build and sustain positive awareness of VUSN's education, practice and research strengths; attract and convert high-quality applicants; support school leadership and stakeholders with strategic communication; and provide integrated marketing and creative services across programs. Key initiatives include branding, digital and traditional advertising, market research, public relations, social media, web strategy, direct response efforts, collateral development, internal communications and publications.
Key Functions and Expected Performance:
Develops and executes marketing strategies and integrated tactical plans designed to raise the reputation and awareness of the School of Nursing and its programs.
Works independently and with partners to build, execute and refine enrollment, external learning and reputation marketing campaigns in a variety of formats, including traditional, digital, paid search, email and direct response.
Helps articulate quantifiable objectives and recommends tactics and timeline
Creates strategic plans for marketing initiatives, including message development, creative direction, target audiences, timelines and/or other related aspects
Develops strong relationships and effective collaborative processes with program partners
Develops and monitors marketing communications budget to achieve plan
Tracks and analyzes key metrics and performance data for social media and digital marketing campaigns
Conducts marketing research and competitive analysis to inform decision-making and recommend improvements
Proactively seek ways to help VUSN programs to improve performance
Develops and distributes compelling messaging and content for target audiences.
Develops or assists in creating content and messaging that engage prospective students
Reviews and manages creative materials needed to execute tactical plan, including but not limited to:
- Admissions brochures and printed collateral
- Direct response communications - email and direct mail
- Web copy and graphic presentation
- Advertising - digital and traditional
- Video
Creates and enhances program-specific content on the school's website
Optimizes web pages
Ensures that the VUSN branding standards are consistently applied
Perform other relevant duties as assigned
Supervisory Relationships:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities; this position reports administratively and functionally to the Executive Director of Marketing and Communications.
Education and Certifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required
3-5 years of experience in marketing or advertising, preferably in higher education
Experience and Skills:
Demonstrated success in integrated marketing and communications initiatives, including advertising, digital and social media marketing, direct response, email and event campaigns.
Strong knowledge of marketing and communications principles, including brand strategy and management, message development, competitive analysis and higher education graduate enrollment marketing trends.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a high level of creativity; experience creating and managing content across websites, social platforms and digital channels.
Advanced technical and analytical capabilities, including SEO/SEM, web content management systems, basic HTML, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and data analysis, reporting and budgeting.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously while working both independently and collaboratively, flexibility to work outside normal business hours as needed.
