Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our Business and Fiscal Affairs team. The ideal candidate will assist in the preparation of financial statements, verify financial records and transactions through a thorough and complete reconciliation process, analyze complex documents, review processes for best practices using National Association for College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) standards, assist with audits, and develop paperwork for regulatory reporting. When we hire accountants, the incumbent will assist with training new staff and monitoring their work for accuracy. Our ideal candidate has at least three years of professional accounting experience with a track record for providing accurate and efficient work. College/University accounting experience along with Ellucian knowledge is a plus.
Essential Job Duties
Assist in the preparation of financial and statistical reports such as financial statements (In accordance with GAAP), budget performance (monthly budget-to-actual reports), and interim receivables financial reporting
Review trial balance revenue/expense accounts monthly
Perform the processing of functional and benefits expense allocations, monthly accruals, amortization of prepaid expenses, and recording of adjusting and reclassification journal entries, if necessary Reconcile assigned bank accounts on a monthly basis
Tie cash receipts and disbursements in the general ledger to activity on bank statements Reconcile gifts revenues and general ledger accounts
Review complex agreements, financial information, and related policy and guidelines to identify award restrictions, reporting and other requirements such as Education Department General Administrative Regulations (EDGAR)
Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual internal and external reports
Investigate accounts with differences and prepare journal entries as appropriate Other duties as assigned
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (required)
Master’s degree in accounting/business or a CPA designation (preferred)
A minimum of three years’ experience as an accountant (required)
Two years of College/University accounting experience (preferred)
Experience with computerized office tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Word Ellucian experience (preferred)
Physical Demands

Skills and Attributes
