    Organization's Summary Statement:
    The Department of Computer Science and Engineering Technology at University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) invites applications and nominations for an Assistant Professor of Gaming and Software Engineering position in the in the School of Business and Technology. The position is a nine-month tenure-track appointment and reports directly to the Department Chairperson.

    UMES is located on the scenic Eastern Shore of Maryland in Princess Anne. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering Technology offers the following degrees: BS in Computer Science, BS in Gaming and Software Engineering, BS in Engineering Technology, and three graduate programs, i.e., a Master of Science in Applied Computer Science, a Master of Science in Applied Cybersecurity Engineering, and an interdisciplinary joint Ph.D. program in Applied Computing and Engineering. The Ph.D. program has five concentrations, three of which are managed by the department, i.e., Cybersecurity, Data and Computational Science, and Software Engineering.

    Responsibilities:
    • Teaching expectations include instructing undergraduate courses in Game
    Design and Development in a variety of instructional modalities, including
    face-to-face, hybrid, and online.
    • Actively seek external grants and publish scholarly work.
    • Service to the Department, School, University, and/or professional
    community
    • Participate in course and program development activities and outreach and
    promotion activities.
    • Participate in recruitment and retention initiatives, and activities.
    • Motivate students to actively participate in all aspects of the educational
    process.
    • Teach and mentor diverse communities.
    • Participate in professional game design and game production-related
    organizations and conferences.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications:
    • An earned Ph.D. or foreign equivalent or All But Dissertation (ABD) in
    computer science, software engineering, or computer game design
    discipline, or a closely related field is required for the
    position. (Note: Individuals with degrees outside of the US may be subject
    to verification at the candidate’s expense.)
    • Demonstrated experience or knowledge of all facets of the game design
    and game programming field, including technical, managerial, and artistic
    advances, current research (traditional and applied); and industry
    developments.
    • Demonstrated knowledge or experience working with or teaching all
    primary game design, game programming, and management software
    applications, engines, and tools, as well as related hardware.

    Physical Demands:
    • May require extended periods of standing, bending, sitting at desk.
    • May require lifting up to 25 lbs.
    • Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and
    internally.
    • Requires operation of a variety of office equipment.

    Preferences:
    • Demonstrated post-secondary teaching experience.
    • Demonstrated online or hybrid teaching experience.
    • Demonstrated experience working with diverse communities.
    • Demonstrated research and teaching background in, but not limited to,
    Computer Game Design and Development, Computer Graphics, Virtual
    Reality, Augmented Reality, and Human-Computer- Interface (HCI).
    • Publications of major entertainment or serious games and two years of
    higher education teaching in the subject matter area.

    • Strong communication skills, including written communication.
    • Excellence in teaching and a commitment to mentoring students.
    • Competent in research and creative activities.
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
