  • Position Description
    The School of Music at Texas State University seeks an engaging, creative, collaborative, and dedicated teacher to serve as a full-time, non-tenure-line Assistant Professor of Instruction of Music Theory. Duties to begin in August 2025.

    The successful candidate will be expected to:
    Teach music theory and/or aural skills courses as part of the undergraduate musicianship core, and other topics according to the candidate’s qualifications and needs of the School of Music.
    Tutor music theory/aural skills students.
    Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and service activities.
    Other duties assigned by the Director of the School of Music.
    Required Qualifications
    Master’s degree in music theory or related field.
    Demonstrated success in teaching music theory and aural skills at the professional or collegiate level.
    A minimum of one academic year as instructor-of-record for music theory and/or aural skills courses.
    Experience working with individuals from varied backgrounds
    Preferred Qualifications
    Doctorate in music theory or related field.
    Keyboard skills.
    National stature as a music theorist.
    Demonstrated communication and organizational skills, and an ability to work collaboratively.
