Job Description
The College of Science is currently seeking multiple Undergraduate Academic Advisors to join our Advising Team. The successful candidates will work within one of our 10 departments; Computational Modeling & Data Analytics (CMDA), the School of Neuroscience, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Economics, Geosciences, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology, and Statistics. The positions are full-time administrative and professional faculty calendar year positions.
The key responsibilities for the academic advisor include one-on-one advising; consistent and accurate communications with students; and confidential, consistent, and accurate maintenance of student records. The primary emphasis is on advising majors, including course selection and registration advising, creating plans of study, monitoring progress to graduation, performing graduation clearances, explaining college and university policies and procedures, communicating to students electronically, and working with students not making satisfactory academic progress to address deficiencies and create remediation plans.
Cross-training to familiarize themselves with another undergraduate program offered in the College of Science is expected. As necessary, the selected candidates may assist another College of Science department with advising on an intermittent basis should the need arise. Required Qualifications
Master's Degree from an accredited institution, preferably in student development, counseling, or education, or Bachelor's Degree with equivalent training and/or experience in advising;
Excellent communication, organizational, time management, problem solving, and interpersonal skills;
Ability to work independently to meet deadlines and set work priorities;
Knowledge in MS Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, and Outlook) and their Google application equivalents (e.g., Doc, Sheets, Gmail);
Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain high level of confidentiality by following FERPA, university, and department guidelines;
Ability to work effectively with a diverse population, including students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and prospective students and their families.
Preferred Qualifications
Employment experience in academic unit, including previous work in areas of academic student services, advising, recruiting, and curriculum processes.
