Primary Purpose of Position
The main responsibility of this position is to oversee the daily operations of the Agricultural and Natural Resources Unit within the Cooperative Extension Department. Duties include a range of tasks from standard office support to administrative functions. Public interaction, both within the organization and with external stakeholders, is a key aspect of the role. This position plays a vital role in supporting research and extension projects, farm operations, farm management, and organizing training and demonstration events at the CEFS Small Farm Unit. Although the primary work location will be on-campus, periodic travel to the Center for Environmental Farming Systems Small Farms Unit in Goldsboro, NC is required.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
N.C. A&T is a public, land-grant, doctoral research institution and has been the largest historically Black university in the country for the past decade. With an enrollment of 14,311 students in Fall 2024, the university offers 59 undergraduate degree programs, 36 master’s programs, and 12 doctoral programs. The basic mission of the Cooperative Extension Service at NC A&T State University and NC State University is to extend the application of research-generated knowledge of a coordinated Cooperative Extension system in North Carolina and to bridge existing gaps so that all farmers, homemakers, families, youth and communities might acquire the practical knowledge and life skills needed to improve the quality of their lives.Educational assistance is offered in four broad area; agriculture and natural resources, home economics, 4-H and youth development, community and rural development. Extension specialist on campus provide training and technical assistance to Extension agents and paraprofessionals working in the counties. These county personnel work one-on one with the families and individuals in the various programs. The A&T Cooperative Extension Program provides educational programs for limited-resource families and individuals in about one-third of North Carolina counties.
The Center for Environmental Farming Systems is a three-way partnership between North Carolina A&T State University, North Carolina State University, and North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services with more than 29 years of history in designing, creating, and implementing innovative strategies to help farmers and communities to achieve equitable and sustainable goals.
Work Hours 8:00AM-5:00PM Monday-Friday

Duties
Proficiency with computers, software, and departmental databases is required.
Extensive use of Excel for data management and analysis.
Summarize evaluation data and retrieve relevant information from government websites as needed.
Use scheduling software to manage appointments and events.
Required Competency Communication - Verbal/Written
Duties
Answers questions pertaining to CEFS Small Farm Unit programs, Cooperative Extension Programs in the ANR unit, and Research.
Responds to customer needs such as providing instructions for farm location for events, gathering other resources to support different events. Interacts with a diverse group of personalities using verbal communication skills.
Establishes and maintains effective and positive working relationships with project PIs, technicians, and the general public.
Prepare and distribute communications, newsletters, and event updates to internal and external parties.
Facilitate communication between the Agricultural and Natural Resources Unit and other departments or external entities.
Required Competency Work Coordination
Duties
This position requires excellent organizational and time management skills including the ability to handle multiple responsibilities.
Manage the Unit Leader’s calendar, schedule meetings, appointments, and events.
Draft, proofread, and edit correspondence, reports, and other documents for the Unit Leader.
Organize and maintain electronic and physical files related to administrative, research, and extension activities.
Arrange travel logistics for the Unit Leader and other staff members for field visits, conferences, or outreach activities.
Monitor travel budgets and ensure compliance with travel policies.
Required Competency Financial Management
Duties
Manages resource lists, assessment data, and sorts information for use in program or project management and training purposes.
Assist with budget preparation and monitor expenses for the Agricultural and Natural Resources Unit, ensuring adherence to financial guidelines.
Assist with purchase orders, invoices, and reimbursements for the Unit Leader and related programs.
Maintain financial records, track spending, and provide regular updates to the Unit Leader on budget status.
Assist in preparing itineraries, travel reimbursements, and expense reports
