Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Leads course design and delivery initiatives that are focused on the best pedagogical practices of online teaching. Plans and manages projects/initiatives toward IUSSW course and curriculum development.
Designs, develops, and manages IUSSW curriculum within the University's web-based systems.
Creates, designs, and manages user interface features and interactions.
Participates in the development and implementation of standards and quality assurance measures.
Provides instructional and technological support and guidance to faculty members. Works collaboratively with IUSSW faculty members, program directors, web developers, the IUSSW Director of Instructional Technology, the Assistive Technology and Accessibility Center (ATAC), and IU eLearning Design and Services (eDS).
Provides oversight of other IUSSW instructional designers to ensure consistency across the School.
Designs, develops, and maintains all IUSSW online and hybrid courses using; the IUSSW on-brand template to ensure a consistent "look and feel" and user experience across the curriculum, the Quality Matters Rubric to ensure alignment of course learning outcomes, content, supplemental materials, and learning activities, WCAG 2.0 accessibility standards for instructional delivery to ensure courses are user-friendly toward all student needs, and the federal regulations for distance education to ensure financial aid criteria are met and to enhance/facilitate interactivity.
Interacts with faculty subject matter experts (SMEs) /faculty content leads on curricular mapping, scaffolding, and aligning online and hybrid course content for new and existing courses.
Consults with learning technologists to develop, implement, and maintain web apps and other technologies to enhance the delivery of interactive online content.
Builds interactive online and hybrid course content within the university's web content management system (WCMS) and convert it for use within the Canvas LMS platform.
Continually monitors and reviews online and hybrid courses to identify content and/or functionality issues (accessibility issues, outdated materials, expired links, etc.).
Identifies and provides non-accessible course materials to ATAC for conversion and create accessible documents (e.g., a DOCX of a PDF), as applicable.
Collaborates with eDS consultants to understand and implement new IU-supported teaching and learning technologies to enhance course design, facilitate interaction, and improve teaching and learning.
Provides Canvas technology support and training to instructors and assist with/troubleshooting Canvas-related technology issues.
Maintains awareness of updates and upgrades to Canvas and Canvas-supported technology platforms and communicate relevant information to instructors as to how these will affect their teaching experience.
Assists in onboarding processes for new adjunct faculty regarding Canvas technology and basic best practices of online teaching.
Incorporates instructor and student feedback to improve online and hybrid course design and delivery
Collaborates with eDS to develop tutorials for instructors and students around Canvas technology and other Canvas-supported technology platforms.
Reviews Canvas analytics to monitor student and instructor usage patterns to identify standards and policies around online teaching and monitor instructors adherence to regular and substantive teaching requirements to identify any training needs that this may highlight.
Performs other duties as assigned.
General Responsibilities
Consults and serves as an experienced resource in planning, testing and implementing instructional technology projects that support innovative approaches to learning, instructional and assessment.
Maintains currency on emerging technologies related to learning management systems, active learning classrooms, electronic collaboration and social networking, instructional use of multimedia, electronic conferencing and online instruction to help faculty make evidence-based decisions about the use of technology.
Researches, stays up-to-date, and recommends appropriate technologies for developing materials, delivery mechanisms and course/instructor/student assessments to support effective teaching.
Develops and designs workshop materials that promote technology strategies in traditional and online courses and conducts individual, group and large audience training sessions.
Collaborates in larger initiatives and working groups to support university efforts to improve teaching and learning.

EDUCATION
Required
Bachelor's degree preferably in computer science, instructional technology/design, or related field
Preferred
Master's degree
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
2 years of experience in instructional development and/or instructional technology consulting, and/or training, and/or teaching (face-to-face or online) or providing instructional design with online instructional technology, preferably in a higher education context
Preferred
3 years of experience in instructional development and/or instructional technology consulting, and/or training, and/or teaching (face-to-face or online) or providing instructional design with online instructional technology, preferably in a higher education context
Experience in graphics design
Experience using University web-based learning management systems (Canvas and Web Content Management System)
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONS
Preferred
Certification or other accredited training in instructional/course design or technical and professional communications
