Job Summary
The Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences at Concord University is accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chemistry. The position requires the ability to develop and teach introductory general chemistry with lab, and upper-level courses including inorganic and analytical chemistry. A Ph.D. in chemistry or a closely related field is required, although applicants who are ABD may be considered. Appointment at higher rank may be possible for well-qualified candidates.
The Department values and actively supports innovative teaching and participation in undergraduate research and seeks candidates with similar ideals. The chemistry program supports majors in chemistry (including a biochemistry option and a geochemistry option), biology, health sciences, nursing, science education, and environmental geosciences.
The Department maintains a diverse array of instrumentation for teaching and undergraduate research, including GC, GC-MS, fluorimeter, micro-XRF, XRD, HPLC, SCF extractor, microplate reader, ICP-ES, Raman, IR, UV-Vis, FT-IR, potentiostat/galvanostat, AFM, polarizing microscopes, thin section/materials prep laboratory, microwave reactor, plasma sputter and vacuum carbon coaters, vacuum spin coater, a benchtop NMR, and an electron microprobe (EPMA) as part of the Concord Materials and Rare Earth Elements Analysis Center. Department faculty lead or co-lead numerous externally funded projects and other collaborative initiatives in geosciences, physics, and chemistry funded by NSF and DoED. Seed grant funds are available to initiate scholarship with undergraduate students.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duty/Responsibility
The candidate will teach a 12 contact-hour load/semester and will be expected to engage in professional development that enhances their teaching, coordinate general chemistry lab experiences, assume a role in formal and informal student mentoring, and participate in departmental activities and University governance including contributions to programmatic assessment efforts.
The successful candidate will participate in routine upkeep and maintenance of laboratory facilities and engage in safe and ethical laboratory practices as a role model to students.

Required Licenses/Certification
Position requires a Ph.D. for assistant professor rank, or M.S. for instructor rank.
Required Skills
Candidates with a record of teaching, scholarship, and demonstrable commitment to undergraduate mentoring preferred. Strong communication skills expected.
Required Experience
Type of experience Needed University teaching experience preferred. May include experience in graduate teaching assistantships.
