Alumni Relations and Development (ARD) engages alumni (~220k), current students, parents and friends of the University through intellectual, professional and social activities on campus, around the world and online. ARD raises $600 Million annually to support faculty and researchers, practitioners and patients, and students and programs across the University. Our work supports priorities in every division, school, department, and institute.
Prospect Development and Decision Support (PDDS) is a team of quantitative and qualitative analysts, problem solvers, communicators, and educators working together to translate data and technology into actionable insight and strategy that maximizes fundraising results and builds organizational capacity.
Job Summary
This role uses best practices and knowledge to serve by designing, implementing, and evaluating financial strategy. Interprets and communicates complex analytical results and strategic thinking with critical stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Supports financial analytics efforts for the Alumni Relations and Development division (ARD), including fiscal year, campaign, and long-term projections on cash and Fundraising Progress (FRP).
Analyzes and communicates fundraising results, generates insight into ARD’s growth trajectory, and understands, analyzes, and helps to communicate the influence of fundraising outcomes on the University’s overall financial position.
Supports team’s partnership with central budget office to contribute to long-range budget model, as well as other ad hoc initiatives.
Leverages Salesforce and associated technologies to derive insights into how ARD’s work aligns with University priorities and reports on overall impact.
Uses predictive modeling, analytics, and artificial intelligence to increase the impact and efficacy of the financial analytics team’s work.
Initiates, helps to develop, and tests enhancements that bring efficiencies to the financial analytics team.
Develops complex queries using Business Objects. Develops and delivers ad hoc reports and analysis to a variety of stakeholders, including senior leaders.
Works to integrate the findings of the financial analytics team into the work of teams throughout the Operations Department.
In partnership with Prospect Management, generates insight into donor behavior, and works with partners throughout ARD to incorporate that insight into fundraising strategy. Generates insight into the performance of fundraising pilots, programs, and fundraising initiatives.
Partners with Learning and Engagement team to educate all ARD staff on University financial position, fundraising progress, forecasting methods, and other related initiatives. Assists in the development of materials that make processes and insight transparent and accessible to all staff.
Develops and maintains relationships with colleagues University-wide and at peer institutions to keep pace with best tools, techniques, and practices in application of quantitative analysis techniques to alumni relations and development programs.
Develops and expands analytical skillset on an ongoing basis. Finds and applies new tools and techniques to achieve maximum effectiveness in data informed analysis.
Seeks opportunities for professional development that will enhance job performance, including building networks within the University and with colleagues at peer institutions and with an eye towards broadly diversifying the advancement profession.
Collaborates to create the long-term financial model to reflect the strategic priorities. Guides budget administrators to help ensure the integrity of financial analysis and planning.
Conducts financial research to advance decision-making and communication for critical stakeholders. Solves financial problems by designing and executing regular and ad hoc financial analysis, including forecasting, risk analysis, and evaluation of strategic options.
Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
Work Experience:
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree.
Coursework in mathematics, statistics, financial analysis, or similar relevant coursework.
Experience:
Minimum five years of professional experience in nonprofit management, development, alumni relations, marketing, public relations, sales or similar professional work experience.
Technical Skills and Knowledge:
Demonstrated skill and knowledge of, or ability to learn quickly, the internal workings of the University as well as the technology tools available to the Office of Alumni Relations and Development, including Phoenix (the University's Donor Relationship Management System), Microsoft Windows computer environment, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
Knowledge of statistics and statistical software packages (R, Python, etc.).
Analytical skills and advanced computational skills.

Working Conditions
This position has a hybrid work schedule which includes weekly in office presence.
