Primary Purpose of the Position
Winston-Salem State University’s Department of Computer Science has a dynamic group of students, faculty, and staff dedicated to learning, teaching, and advancing Computer Science. The department believes strongly in the individual worth of every student. Therefore, collaboration in research and participation in departmental, College, and university service, as well as engaging in service to one’s professional discipline and the larger Winston-Salem and Forsyth County community.
Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) announces a national search for two (2) faculty positions in the Department of Computer Science in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education (CASE). The full-time, nine-month Tenure-track positions will begin in August 2025. Established in 1991, the Department of Computer Science offers a highly successful ABET/CAC-accredited B.S. Degree program in computer science and a B.S. degree program in information technology. The department also offers a M.S. degree program in computer science and information technology, two certificate programs in computer programming and data analytics, and minor programs in computer science and data science.
Position 1: We invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Cybersecurity. The ideal candidate will have a doctoral degree in Computer Science or a related field by August 2025. Responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in Computer Science and Information Technology’s foundational, breadth, and depth areas. Candidates should demonstrate an ability to conduct and publish high-quality research, secure extramural funding, and mentor students inside and outside the classroom. Position 2: We also invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Artificial Intelligence. The ideal candidate will have a doctoral degree in Computer Science or a related field by August 2025. Responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in Computer Science and Information Technology’s foundational, breadth, and depth areas. Candidates should demonstrate an ability to conduct and publish high-quality research, secure extramural funding, and mentor students inside and outside the classroom. Although the department will give special consideration to candidates with a demonstrated commitment to teaching and interdisciplinary research with expertise in cyber-security and artificial intelligence, expertise in other research areas of computer science will also be considered.
Candidates with an established research program, a history of outstanding publications, and extramural funding may be considered for one of the endowed professorships in computer science.
The candidates would be expected to provide outstanding teaching, research, and service to the professional discipline and the Winston-Salem and Forsyth County community; maintain the highest level of quality in undergraduate and graduate instruction to support the ABET-accredited
programs and other programs offered by the department. The candidate would be expected to attract external funding, contribute to the execution of the department and university strategic plan, demonstrate leveraging data to engage in the process of continuous improvement, work collaboratively with members of the department and other departments, committed to the principles of liberal education, and develop external collaborations with other academic institutions and industries.
