Primary Purpose of Department
The Department of Economics, one of six academic departments in the Belk College of Business, has a strong core of applied quantitative and econometric researchers investigating economic, business, and social policies. Our programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels contain many courses that develop and apply these analytical skills that prepare students for the workplace and further study.

Teaching, Advising, Curriculum and Instructional Development – Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, advising and consultation, directing student research, curriculum and instructional development, and grading student work.
Scholarly Research, Creative, and Other Professional Activities – All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to participate in expanding the knowledge base of their academic field by conducting research or engaging in other creative activities as appropriate to the faculty member’s discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to research may include but are not limited to: research/creative activity that generates new knowledge and/or synthesizes and/or integrates existing knowledge, publication, an on-going agenda for research, scholarly, and creative activity, and are expected to seek extramural support for their work.
Service to University, the Public, and the Profession – All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to engage in a program of service appropriate to their discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to service may include but are not limited to: service to the administration and governance of the University, public service, and service to the profession.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Economics at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant or Associate (with tenure) Professor to begin August 11, 2025.
The successful candidate for this position will engage in high quality research, teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and participate in departmental governance and service activities. In addition to our undergraduate program in economics, the department offers an M.S. in Economics program and plays a key role in the Ph.D. in Business Administration with a Concentration in Finance, the Ph.D. in Public Policy, as well as the M.S. in Mathematical Finance programs. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality instruction in one or more of these programs depending on the candidate’s fields of specialization.
Minimum Experience/Education
UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.
Preferred Education, Skills and Experience
Preference will be given to candidates with research interests in macroeconomics and strong quantitative and econometric skills. Candidates should have a completed doctorate in Economics or a related field by the start of the appointment and must meet academic qualifications as described in the “Belk College Policy on Qualified Faculty Status.” Those applying for an Assistant position should provide evidence of the potential for high-quality research and teaching. Those applying for an Associate position should provide evidence of high-quality research and teaching, as a selected candidate at this rank will go through the tenure process as outlined in the “Belk College Policies and Procedures for Reappointment, Promotion, and Grant of Permanent Tenure.”
