Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Radiology Chair Office, is seeking a Scientist I. The primary responsibility of the Scientist I is to address various needs in imaging research and analytics for the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC) and various medical imaging-based research projects. They will leverage existing open-source or other publicly available tools and develop new tools to enhance image processing capabilities of ADRC sponsored projects and other imaging related projects. The Scientist I will also conduct individually directed research in medical image processing, analytics, and clinically applied AI using medical images. They will participate in various collaborative projects by providing technical support, consultation, and expertise for image processing, analytics, and machine learning.

To employ a broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures in a particular field of specialization.
To plan, coordinate and conduct research.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
1. Maintain Alzheimer's Disease Research Center image processing tools and execute image processing tasks.
2. Manage raw and derivative imaging data as well as data-sharing initiatives and requests.
3. Establish cross-core SOPs for data management and sharing Streamline an image processing pipeline for function Magnetic Resonance Imaging and compute key metrics.
4. Train machine learning and deep learning models to aid in computer-aided diagnosis projects for opportunistic screening Develop image processing pipeline for histopathology images.
5. Perform code review and analysis review.
6. Mentor trainees in research projects for image analysis and machine learning tasks.
7. Perform other duties as assigned
Annual Salary Range $70,00.00 - $80,000.00
Qualifications
Doctor of Philosophy, D.V.M. or M.D. degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
OR M.D. and Master's degree.
OR Master's degree and four (4) years of related experience
OR Bachelor's degree and six (6) years of related experience
Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences
Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, computational sciences, medical physics, data science, or related fields.
Two years of experiences in medical imaging research Prior experience in neuroimaging with at least one of the modalities of PET, SPECT, MR and CT.
Experience in multi-modal image processing is preferred.
Demonstrated experience in medical image processing, in tasks such as image quantification, segmentation, enhancement and other types of processing.
Experience in machine learning and deep learning algorithms to medical imaging analytics
Strong programming skills in Python, MATLAB, and deep learning libraries such as Pytorch and Tensorflow.
Working experience with common open source image processing libraries such as nibabel, ITK, VTK, and 3D Slicer preferred.
Ability to conduct studies, design experimental plans, and perform data analysis under minimal direction is required.
Ability to troubleshoot problems, interpret data, and communicate results to peers, superiors, and trainees.
Strong programming background in MATLAB, Python, or R; experience in medical image processing and analysis; strong analytical skills; strong communication skills for collaborative projects; experience in imaging AI or machine learning models is desirable.
