    The University Police Department at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Campus Police Investigator I. The primary purpose for this position is to support WVU’s University Police Department by working as a key component of the investigative division. This position will be responsible for background investigations, forensic and digital evidence collection/review, undercover surveillance, along with case report and crime analysis.



    In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will be:



    20%
    Conducting extensive pre-employment and yearly background investigations for all sworn/non­-sworn positions. The incumbent will also be developing and maintaining process as needed to ensure adherence to University policies and procedures and applicable state and federal law.
    10%
    Creating and conducting crime analysis by reviewing daily/monthly/quarterly/yearly police incident and service call reports. This position will also be responsible for creating and utilizing analysis modules in the Zuercher report and information management system.
    10%
    Working in conjunction with investigative unit in reviewing and identifying crime trends and patterns. The incumbent will also be working with other local law enforcement agencies to develop intelligence and information sharing protocols.
    25%
    Reviewing surveillance cameras throughout campus to identify suspects or detect criminal activity in relation to active UPD investigations. This position will be utilizing surveillance cameras and digital evidence to assist outside law enforcement agencies in active criminal investigations.
    10%
    Serving as the UPD representative on the campus security camera committee. This incumbent will be responsible for installation and placement of hidden surveillance and observational cameras.
    10%
    Coordinating and developing plans for the placement and installation of panic alarms and remote door locking systems. The position will be developing and conducting security assessments for university owned property, buildings and facilities.
    10%
    Coordinating with information technology and computer forensics with investigations and the processing of evidence. This incumbent will be testifying in criminal court proceedings and WVU student conduct hearings.
    5%
    Other duties as assigned by UPD command staff and unit supervisor.

    Pay Grade: 18

    Qualifications

    An Associate’s degree in a discipline related to computer science, criminal justice, human resources, information technology or similar field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    Two (2) years of law enforcement related investigative experience.
    Ability to produce and maintain detailed records and documentation.
    Ability to testify in a court of law, technical information and steps taken during different processes.
    Knowledge of WVU and UPD Policies and Procedures.
    Excellent communication skills, including the ability to read, write and speak the English language.
    Ability to maintain a normal work schedule, with occasional deviations as may be required by unusual circumstances.
    Ability to travel to regional campuses or other locations as needed.
    Ability to use a personal computer effectively for word processing, maintaining records, and scheduling.
    Ability to manage multiple projects/cases concurrently through effective time management.
    Ability to maintain information with confidence, using good judgment and discretion with highly personal and sensitive issues.
    Ability to work with minimal supervision.
    Ability to work well with people in dealing with personal, embarrassing and/or disputed issues.
    High level of competency with interacting with people from diverse backgrounds and circumstances.
