  • Position Summary:

    This position reports to the Associate Vice President and contributes to general business planning regarding technology and systems required to maintain college operations and effectiveness. The position recognizes new developments in information systems technology and anticipates organizational modifications, establishes long-term needs for information systems and plans strategy for developing systems and acquiring hardware to meet application needs. This position ensures confidentiality and reliability of corporate data, proprietary information, and intellectual property. The position functions as a top-level contact to assist in determining IT requirements and solutions. Serves as a member of the Emergency Management Team.

    Duties and Responsibilities
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Department Management

    Establishes, plans, and administers the overall guidelines and goals for the information technology department
    Leverages adaptive planning, evolutionary development, early delivery, continuous improvement, and encourages rapid and flexible response to change
    Leads and/or serves on committees, organizes or monitors the work of committees
    Initiates and maintains communication with outside agencies
    Recognizes and embraces the benefits of agile/iterative development methods and actively promotes collaboration between self-organizing, cross-functional teams
    Develops and interprets policies, procedures, and standards regarding department operations for IT

    Team Supervision
    Supervises management-level IT staff
    Builds and promotes high performing teams which support the instructional and service mission of the college
    Provides IT leadership and represents the IT department through a participatory management style, team-building strategies, and problem solving techniques
    Employs effective interpersonal skills to empower staff in the performance of their work
    Maintains a working knowledge of all negotiated agreements, institutional policies and regulations and procedures
    Motivates and encourages all team members to actively participate in Lean continuous improvement activities in order to facilitate delivery of effective, high-quality services to both internal and external customers
    Meets regularly with IT teams to monitor pace and improvement activities using visual management tools
    Conducts regularly scheduled Gemba walks

    Planning and Budget
    Establishes priorities for feasibility studies, funding, resource allocation, system design, and implementation necessary to analyze the need to develop new and/or modify the college's current information processing systems
    Recognizes new developments in information technology systems and anticipates organizational modifications
    Develops, plans and budgets for the college's information technology infrastructure and for the integration of information technology into its administrative and instructional activities
    Plans, writes, and compiles reports for use by college administration
    Collaboratively engages with service and instructional area to ensure technology needs are met

    Data and Systems
    Ensures the overall integrity of the college-wide information technology infrastructure and coordinates information technology services college-wide
    Ensures confidentiality, accuracy and reliability of the college's data and property
    Ensures IT departmental compliance with all federal, state, local, and college requirements

    Institutional Expectations
    Embraces diversity and actively collaborates effectively with a variety of students, staff and the public from diverse cultural, social, economic and educational backgrounds
    Participates in recruitment and retention of students at an individual and institutional level in promotion of student success
    Embraces, understands and uses appropriate technology tools to accomplish job functions
    Provides high quality, effective service to internal and external customers through continuous improvement and adoption of lean office practices
    Qualifications
    Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
    -AND-
    Five years' combined experience in an administrative or management position with an emphasis in Technology and/or Education.
    -AND-
    Three years' supervisory experience. Up to one year of supervisory experience may be substituted by success completion of the Chemeketa Employee Development Certification

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Master's degree from an accredited institution
    Certification PMP or Six Sigma
    IT Director level experience in higher education
    Experience planning
    Experience budgeting
    Experience managing personnel
    Experience with Microsoft enterprise infrastructure
    Coursework in a technical field (i.e. Computer Science, Business, Engineering, Educational Policy)
