    The successful candidate has an M.S. or Ph.D. in chemistry with knowledge of basic techniques in a chemistry laboratory setting. Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) are required. Experience in laboratory instruction and a commitment to exemplary teaching are preferred. The successful candidate works well in interdisciplinary teams and is comfortable working independently.     About the Job

    The innovative University of Minnesota Rochester (www.r.umn.edu) invites applications for a chemistry instructor to teach undergraduates in the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (BSHS) program beginning in January 2019. In collaboration with other faculty in UMR’s Center for Learning Innovation (CLI) faculty, the successful candidate will help prepare and team-teach the range of chemistry courses and laboratory experiences needed by students in the BSHS program (including general chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry).

    Duties are focused on student success and include preparing and teaching laboratory sessions, implementing active learning strategies, grading, staffing the Just ASK tutoring center (http://www.r.umn.edu/academics-research/cli/just-ask/), ordering lab supplies, supervising undergraduate academic assistants, facilitating department-wide data collection efforts that coincide with teaching responsibilities, serving on CLI committees, and other related duties as assigned.

    About the UMR Center for Learning Innovation. This new faculty member will join colleagues in the Center for Learning Innovation (CLI), an interdisciplinary department that focuses on undergraduate education in health sciences and engages students as participants in research on learning. The CLI is a learning-centered faculty community in which ongoing assessment guides student learning and is the basis for research on teaching and learning. Faculty take a team-based, collaborative approach to teaching and research. The CLI promotes a learner-centered, technology-enhanced, concept-driven, and community-integrated learning environment. Through ongoing assessment of student achievement, the CLI aspires to personalize education and continuously improve the educational experience for our students.
