If you essay is asking for 'under 500 words' and you have gone over, how will the essay grader grade the paper?

I wouldn't even try to go over. When you are proof reading the essay, try to eliminate some of the unnecessarily repetitive words that are in your essay. They can fail your essay this way simply because you didn't follow instructions.
