1. Download the F-1 Student Visa Application Guide.

2. Select where in the Unites States of America you would like to live and study.

3. Choose the type of school you would like like to attend.

4. Contact the school and start the admission process.

5. Upon acceptance by school, the school will issue you an I-20 form (the required document you need to apply for F-1 student visa).

6. With the I-20 form and the F-1 Visa Application Guide you can apply for a student visa at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate. If you are already in the Unites States you may be allowed change your immigration status to student.

7.You may be legally authorized to work in the United States while on a F-1 student visa.

I see on the last item stating students are allowed to work under the F-1 visa. Does it matter if it's full time or part time job? Does the visa restrict you on how many hours per week you are allowed to work since technically, this visa is for you to study abroad in America?

After you have been accepted to a school, students should make an appointment with the consulate for a student visa for their education in the US. This can be done by visiting the consulate's Web site, choosing your country of origin, and following the instructions for making an appointment.
