are there no teaching jobs in the NY area? how much time should i give before considering moving to another state or city that has teaching jobs available?

If you can't find any permanent teaching job, why not start by being a substitute teacher first, then when you sub for a period of time, you will know the people from the school and when openings are available, you are probably the top of list.
