I think a teacher should treat his/her students similar to how they treat their own children. Have the same expectations in them and expect respect from their students just like he/she expects respect from their children. So i will say you should love your students.

If you do not truly love your students in some way, then you are not giving 100% to your work. I always say when you do something, do it from your heart and expect great results.
