  • Essay Exams vs. MC Exams

Do you think the scores from an essay exams are more indicative of what a student learn in class as far as understanding the concepts, etc or the scores from a multiple choice exams are more indicative?

I still believe answers from an essay test tells me more about how much a student really understand the concepts. One of the ways is because on an essay test, students will have to provide example to support their answer, apply the concepts to real life example.

I agree. Essay tests definitely shows more depth. Although multiple choice tests are extrmemly easy to grade, we can just use scantron and let the machine grade for us. A student can make a guess on a multiple choice question and guess it right, but that doens't mean he/she understand anything from the course.
