Well, here are some of the things i definitely look for in choosing a college:
1. Academic ranking or rep
2. Do they excel in the major you are interested in?
3. Location: whether you want to be as far away from home or you want to stay close

Well, i think people might forget the climate is a big factor in picking the school. It's tough for someone living in FL and move to upper northeastern school and try to adapt to their winter storm during those few months. That's why some places are not for everyone. Please choose wisely.

Don't forget the most important part. The "Greens". Tuition fees has got to be the major deciding factor. Also, most people will choose a school over the other because they have received a scholorship offer from one particular school. You should go to the one that gives you the scholorship. It will help with your finances tremendously.

My parents and grandparents are huge on family tradition. So, their first priority of choice for me is to attend the same school that they've been when they were going to college. Somewhat like carrying the family name through the ages so to speak. It works out kind of fine with me because the school is not that far from home and it has a beautiful campus.
