The advantages for having a roommate is definitely the friendship part of it (assuming you two get along) and sometimes having an upperclassman roommate you can learn from him/her and be able to fit into the college life and group quicker. The disadvantages is the noise level when you are trying to study for exams or roommate using your personal things without asking. Word of advice, gotta lay down the rules the first day you move in.

Like you said. Roommate can be your best friend and can also be your worst nightmare. Remember, you guys rub off of each other, so if you have negative attitude about something and you whine about it constantly, your roommate will get that vibe from you, vice versa.

The worst part of having a bad roommate is one that does not know simple courtesy. For example, continuously bringing friends over and having parties while you are trying to study or a roommate that steals.
